What the Bengali Signboard rule says

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) requires Bengali at the top of all signboards, signages and hoardings in its area, in a prominent size, alongside English or any other language. The requirement was made mandatory by KMC Circular No. 63 dated 30 December 2024, and a later circular set a compliance deadline of 30 September 2025 (Lexplosion).

The rule covers Kolkata Municipal Corporation limits. Businesses in Howrah, Bidhannagar (Salt Lake), Siliguri and other West Bengal cities should check their own municipal body, but a Bengali and English board is the safe format everywhere in the state.

Companies and LLPs

A Company board in Kolkata must also meet Section 12 of the Companies Act and, once GST-registered, show the GSTIN under CGST Rule 18. The same board appears in the MGT-7 / MGT-7A registered office photograph.
