Quick facts
- Engraved: the full registered Company Name around the die.
- Size: usually 30–40 mm round, depending on name length.
- Legal format: none prescribed; follow the AOA if it requires a seal.
There's no single Common Seal format mandated by law, but there is a practical standard most Indian Companies follow for size, design, and what's engraved.
What is typically engraved on a Common Seal?
A standard Common Seal design includes the Company's full registered name and often the word "LIMITED" or "PRIVATE LIMITED" as applicable, arranged around a circular or oval die.
What size is a Common Seal?
Common Seal sizes generally range from 30mm to 40mm in diameter for the standard round format, though exact specifications can vary based on Company Name length and preference.
Round vs other Common Seal shapes
The Round Company Seal stamp is the most widely used Common Seal format in India, though oval and rectangular dies are also available depending on preference.
Does the format need to match anything specific?
There's no regulatory format requirement since the Common Seal became optional under the Companies (Amendment) Act, 2015. The design simply needs to clearly represent the Company, and to be valid as specified in the Articles of Association (AOA), if the AOA requires a Common Seal at all.
